Based on the French glass cloche of the 19th century, they were originally used to protect the delicately constructed clocks of the period. These glass domes were later used to exhibit the relics of a family. Given to newlyweds on their wedding day to display the brides crown, the cloches were thereafter filled with different memorabilia such as the first locks of hair from children, heirlooms and family trinkets. Every cloche was displayed in a prominent place and exhibited the individual family history from birth to death.

This glass dome is very rare. The tunic and tree are rare pieces of convent work from the 19th century Napoleon III period. Devotional objects were produced by the nuns as part of their religious duties.

This one of a kind work of art is signed by the artist and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Material

The glass dome measures approx. 32 x 14.5 cm (12.5 x 6 inches) containing a buzzard skull in a tunic of satin silk and lace, embroidered with gold thread and surrounded by fabric blossoms forming a tree. The skull has a painted beak. 2022.
